The classes
We teach in a safe, friendly, and accessible environment. Our classes are made up of people from different backgrounds and abilities.
People in our classes learn practical skills such as sanding, carving, and restoring. Our courses also bring structure and routine, opportunities to make friends with other people in recovery, and we have fun.
In the past, our students have made:
- Planters
- Coin holders
- Shoe racks
- Book shelves
- Wooden boxes
- Benches
There is also the opportunity to learn how to upcycle and restore mid-century wooden furniture including wooden chairs, tables, drawers, and much more.
No theory, no written work!

The classroom
The classes take place in our workshop at Restoration Station in Shoreditch. All of our classes are held in abstinent spaces.
Our classes are friendly, safe, and it doesn’t matter if you get something wrong. We’ll help with what you want and need to know. If you haven’t been in a classroom for ages, don’t worry.
Meet the tutor
Our woodwork tutor has worked at Restoration Station for 12 years. An expert in joinery and vintage furniture restoration, he teaches regular woodwork classes and supervises the furniture restoration shop.
“It’s not about how well you can do a dovetail joint, it’s about coming to the class, making new friends, and learning to open up about your experiences.”
Our students say
“Since starting Restoration Station I’ve noticed that my skills are improving. It keeps me on track – gives me a focus and helps my recovery by giving me routine.”
