In March, we held our annual winter health and well-being MOT for the homeless.
Free winter clothes, sleeping bags, toiletries and haircuts were available to our homeless drop-in regulars. We also invited visitors of nearby homeless drop-ins to join us.
Alongside getting topped up with clothes and shoes that actually fit them, visitors were offered welfare and debt advice alongside a wide range of health checks including:
- TB scans
- Flu jabs
- HIV tests
They even got a chance to receive care for their dogs by some vets.
“It was great to see so many women turn up at this one. Our women’s group have been working hard to tell homeless women that our services are here for them too. They can also fill up on full English breakfasts, tea and advice” Gary Davidge, Homeless drop-in manager, SCT.
As ever, we are hugely grateful to the Skanska team who have been helping us organise and host these events for two years.
Skanska Managing Director Steve Holbrook said: “We’re proud to have sponsored the Spitalfields Crypt Trust’s MOT health checks event again this year. Since 2011, Skanska volunteers have made a significant contribution to helping the homeless through our work with the trust. It’s really important that we support local community groups and give something back to society.”
