When I signed up for London Walks 2024, I decided to take on the 10k route on my own. I’ll admit, I was nervous about walking solo, but what I discovered was a truly amazing event filled with supportive, inspiring people.

Walking alongside other fundraisers, I found myself chatting with people who shared my passion for supporting those facing homelessness. The sheer number of people taking part was incredibly motivating – it made me realise just how many people in London care deeply about helping the most vulnerable in our society. Advocating for this cause can sometimes feel isolating, but being part of London Walks reminded me that I’m not alone and all the effort in trying to make a difference is so worthwhile!

Training? What Training?

One of the best things about London Walks is that you don’t need to be an athlete to take part. I didn’t do any specific training – apparently my London life itself was enough preparation for the 10k route. I even met someone in his 70s, recovering from a recent hip replacement who completed the walk. So, if you’re hesitant because of fitness concerns, don’t be!

My Fundraising Journey

This was my first time taking part in a fundraising event, and I was blown away by the support I received. Setting up a JustGiving page was so simple, and once I shared it on Instagram and Facebook, the donations started pouring in. I explained why I believed so strongly in SCT’s work to help people recover from homelessness and addiction, and my friends and family really rallied behind me.

In just 48 hours, I surpassed my fundraising target of £300, raising over £600. It was such a humbling experience to see how willing people were to contribute when they understood the impact SCT has on transforming lives.
