“Despite being a woman in charge of lots of male residents, I have never felt unsafe – even in the past during night shifts, when it was just me and 16 men.
Residents come to us because they’re serious about getting clean, and most of them, when you take the drugs away, are beautiful human beings.

Of course, when someone relapses and has to leave it can be difficult – sometimes they beg to be taken back and it’s hard not to wonder whether I’ve failed them in some way.”
