Thank You for Making the Big Sleep Out a Success!

On World Homeless Day 2024, we gathered for a truly impactful evening at our annual Big Sleep Out, and we’re overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who contributed to its success. From the participants who braved the cold to the donors who gave generously, you all helped us surpass our initial goal of £20,000, raising over £23,906 (+Gift Aid!!!)—and the total is still growing! We’ve now set our sights on a new goal of £30,000 to ensure even more people have the opportunity to make an even bigger impact. Your support means the world to us and the people we help, and we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the event and say a heartfelt thank you.

A Night of Meaningful Discomfort

Sleeping outside for one night cannot replicate the daily realities faced by thousands of people experiencing homelessness, but it does give us a small glimpse into their struggles. Our 22 participants embraced the discomfort, understanding the significance of their actions. While it was just one night for us, for thousands of people in London, it’s their everyday experience.

The night was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at SCT. The homelessness crisis continues to grow, with more people vulnerable due to the ongoing lack of affordable housing, rising economic pressures, and deep-rooted factors such as childhood trauma, mental health issues, and addiction. These interconnected challenges often trap people in cycles of homelessness, making it difficult for them to find stability. At SCT, we focus on addressing these complex causes and providing people with the support and resources they need to rebuild their lives.

Highlights of the Evening

We were fortunate to have Earl John Charlton join us for the evening, sharing his personal story and hosting a Q&A session after the screening of the film, Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son. Earl’s candid reflections touched everyone, providing a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by those on a journey to recovery.

Another highlight was the bedtime story beautifully read by Janice, who also shared a heartfelt poem written in collaboration with our creative writing students. Her ongoing dedication to SCT is so appreciated by all of us!

We also want to give a special thanks to The Royal Foundation of St Katharine and Yurt Café London for providing space for our Big Sleep Out. Your support helped create a welcoming environment for our fundraisers to come together in solidarity to support those facing homelessness and addiction.

Thank You for Your Generosity

To everyone who donated, took part in fundraising, or shared our message, we cannot thank you enough. Because of your generosity, we’ve not only hit our initial £20,000 goal but are now aiming to raise £30,000! Every donation helps fund our life-changing services, including addiction counselling, mental health support, and housing services, which are essential for helping people rebuild their lives beyond homelessness and addiction.

Make an Even Bigger Impact

If you weren’t able to join us for the Big Sleep Out, it’s not too late to get involved. You can still make a donation to help us reach our new goal of £30,000 and make a meaningful difference in the lives of people facing homelessness and addiction. Donations are open until 21 October.

💙 Donate here to help us continue supporting Life Beyond Homelessness and Addiction.
