Help us keep someone's door to recovery open

At the end of the year, one of SCT’s doors will be closing.

With rising costs, a challenging fundraising environment and the difficulties facing charity retail, we’ve had to make a lot of difficult decisions. Closing our Walthamstow shop was one of them. We’re acting now to do everything we can to keep our other doors – including those of all our services – open, by launching an urgent appeal and being honest with the community that supports us.

Our doors first opened in 1965, and since then, SCT has supported thousands of people in their recovery from addiction and homelessness. The engine that makes all our work possible is community. We receive no direct government funding, relying largely on our charity shops and supporters like you to fund the life changing services we provide.

What happens behind our doors

For the people receiving our support, walking through our doors for the first time is a memorable and defining moment.

On that first day, sitting in my room, feeling the breeze through the open window, I experienced something I hadn’t in a long time… hope.

Coming here was the best thing that ever happened to me. It gave me a second chance.

Where you come in

We need to raise £200,000 by the end of March 2027. We can’t do that alone, so we’re asking for your help.

Here's how your money helps

£50

funds a warm, nutritious meal for 10 people.

£100

contributes towards a night of accommodation and intensive support at Acorn House.

£250

contributes towards the one-to-one support that helps someone sustain their tenancy.

£500

helps turn a Housing First flat into a home, providing the furniture, kitchen equipment and essentials someone needs to begin rebuilding their life.

Even if all you can give right now is £10, every pound helps keep someone’s door to recovery open, and helps them build a life beyond addiction and homelessness.

These are examples of the difference your donation could make. Your gift is unrestricted, helping us direct funds where they are needed most.

This is just the start

Over the coming months we’ll be out on East London’s streets, knocking on our neighbours’ doors, sharing what happens behind ours, and building up to Big Give in December. Follow along and be part of it.
