On Thursday 1 March, London homeless and addictions charity, Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) is hosting a health and well-being MOT for rough sleepers.

TB, heart attack and stroke checks will be offered alongside other advice. Free haircuts, condoms, and a pop-up winter clothes store run by the SCT charity shops will also be present to give away coats, jumpers, socks and hats.

“This freezing week will bring on so many more health problems for the homeless. These health checks will help us identify those with bigger health issues so we can find out how we can better support them. The free clothes store will also mean that people can choose clothes and boots that actually fit them which makes a nice change.” Gary Davidge, Homeless Drop-in Manager, SCT.

SCT has been running a drop in serving food, drink and advice for the homeless since 1965.

In an average week the drop in serves more than 100 people. The charity is asking the public if they have coats, jumpers and socks in good condition to please donate them to any SCT charity shop.(1)

The MOT is kindly being sponsored by Skanska, the construction company who have been volunteering at SCT’s homeless drop-in for over five years
