On Friday 18 March, Jonathan Hawke, a supporter of London homeless and addictions charity, Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) will attempt to travel to all 270 London Underground stations in a single day.
“I’m a bit of Tube nerd to be honest. To do the challenge, I can only use public transport, so that’s buses and trains – and my running legs! I’ve wanted to do this for years, but I also wanted to raise money for SCT while doing it.” Jonathan Hawke.
The current Guinness world record stands at 15 hours, 45 minutes. “I’ll be happy if I do under 17.5 hours. The thing is that a lot of it’s down to luck. A delayed train can throw everything out” said Jonathan who has been poring over timetables and the Tube map in preparation.
Starting very early on the morning of Friday 18th March at Chesham station on the Metropolitan line, his challenge will end at Heathrow Terminal 5 on the Piccadilly line. He will keep a log of the stations he travels through by asking the public to sign a book at stations throughout his journey. He will also be logging the train numbers.
Jonathan first came across SCT three years ago at the charity’s fortnightly pub quiz and has been hooked ever since. His fundraising target is £1000 and donations can be given through his Justgiving page: www.justgiving.com/jonvsthetube2016
