Our eighth charity shop is now open on Mare Street in Hackney.
Taking a new approach, this shop offers a curated selection of second-hand and vintage items including clothes, books, homeware, and accessories.
Since opening at the end of September, the new SCT shop has been warmly welcomed into the local area.
“We’ve had amazing feedback and support from the community, we’ve welcomed some incredible volunteers and have opportunities available for all, we’re committed to becoming a big part of the fabric of Mare Street, selling good quality vintage and designer stock at fair prices, presented in a bright, modern, funky environment.”
– Jenny, Shop Manager
Despite opening during a difficult time for retail, the team have been encouraged by the positive reception, and remain hopeful for the future.
The sales from our charity shops generate essential income for SCT, helping to fund expert support, safe homes, training opportunities, and a supportive community. Meanwhile, the shops offer flexible work experience for people in recovery.
“I’m so excited about our new Mare Street shop taking us into the heart of Hackney with an amazing team and a shop that reflects the cool vibe and the sense of community action that are found all over the borough.” – Steve Coles, CEO
Earlier this year, each of our shops had to close their doors for several months, which lost valuable funding for the charity and left staff and volunteers feeling isolated.
The future looks brighter as we open our new ‘concept’ shop.
You can find us at 324 Mare Street, Hackney.
We have also safely re-opened our seven other locations across East London. For more information about our charity shops and our safety measures during Covid-19, please click here.
